There are so many gems nature has to offer and so many sites that are worth visiting. Both Glasgow and Aberdeen are destinations that one should visit in a lifetime.
Scotland's largest city and one of Europe's cultural capitals, Glasgow is a brilliant travel destination during any season. On the other hand, Aberdeen or The Granite City is famous for its local granite stone which was once used to create London's Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar Square, Waterloo Bridge, Thames Embankment, and other eminent sites. There's so much to see in these two cities but the best part is that there are more hidden treasures on the road between.
Let's hop on a taxi and dive into the beauties that you can see while travelling between Glasgow and Aberdeen.
Stirling Castle — One of Scotland's Greatest Castles
Stirling Castle is just 22 miles away from Glasgow and is among the best-preserved castles that you can find in Europe. Apart from being the home of Mary Queen of Scots and James VI, the castle was once the key to the Scottish kingdom. It's positioned on a volcanic rock and is considered a national monument that is certainly worth the visit. You can still feel the life that was left behind since the 12th century when visiting the castle. Explore its Chapel Royal, the Great hall, the Royal Palace.
Experience Stonehaven
Located just 13 miles off Aberdeen, Stonehaven is another beautiful place to explore while you're travelling from Glasgow to Aberdeen in a taxi. The destination is famous for its breathtaking views and offers both historic attractions and mesmerizing scenery. One of its most eminent tourist attractions is the Dunnottar Castle which you can find on top of a cliff-edge. You can indulge in delicious food in a range of restaurants on the sandy and stunning harbour. Some of the most popular places to eat include The Bay Fish and Chips and Aunty Betty's ice cream parlour.
Forth Road Bridge — Modern Engineering
You don't have to be an engineering enthusiast to be awed by the modern and brilliant Forth Road Bridge. In case you're wondering, Forth Road Bridge is a suspension bridge created in 1964 and connects Edinburgh to Fife. You'll probably need to diverge slightly from the road to visit this beauty but you won't regret it. There are a total of three Forth Bridges and they're a major landmark. Forth Bridge is even one of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites. What better way to take a break from the road and enjoy a quick takeaway lunch at this gorgeous site.
Visit Scone Palace for a Walk through History
Located in Perth and positioned pretty much right at the centre between Aberdeen and Glasgow, Scone Palace is full of history. It's where Scottish kings like Macbeth, Robert the Bruce, and Charles II were once crowned. Apart from the brilliant historic experience that you can get from this place, you can also enjoy its beautiful gardens. The palace holds a variety of antiques, paintings, and rare artefacts. You can also go down to the River Tay and spend some time connecting with nature in the fine woodlands on the grounds of Scone Palace.
The Falkirk Wheel
Interested in a much more rare attraction that you can see on your way to Aberdeen from Glasgow? The Falkirk Wheel is a perfect choice. It's the first created rotating boat lift and to date the only one you could find. Its purpose for creation was to connect the Forth and Cycle Canal and the Union Canal, enabling coast to coast navigation through central Scotland. You can enjoy a boat trip, a refreshing coffee, explore through the gift shops, or stop for a woodland walk. There are so many activities to choose from that you may be tempted to stay for longer.
Enjoy the Beauty of Glamis Castle
Another site nearly located in the middle between Glasgow and Aberdeen is Scotland's most beautiful castle - Glamis Castle. Famous for being the home of the Earls of Strathmore and a royal residence since 1372, the castle is an attraction you don't want to miss while in Scotland. It's also the place where Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother was born and raised. If you're a fan of haunted stories, Glamis Castle has a lot to offer. There are mysterious legends about its hidden chamber. On the outside, it is truly a stunning view that you can't miss. Enjoy its ornamental gardens and fairytale towers, its gorgeous dining room and rich bedrooms.
